How did you get into risk management, and how long have you been doing it?

I started off in an insurance role at London Borough of Merton. Risk became a factor in circa 1998. I came to my current role in 2004.

What do you enjoy about it?

There are a variety of things sent to challenge us. I also enjoy the feeling of working for the local community.

What challenges do you face in your sector?

It’s sometimes a challenge if longstanding members of staff leave or retire with the consequent loss of corporate knowledge with them.

Do you have any specific challenges in your organisation?

Like many local authorities, the council is in a difficult financial position, so we have to balance very careful spending whilst still delivering services to residents

How are you addressing these challenges?

We have launched a council wide transformation programme. Every project therein has its own risk register and any risks carrying the most damaging impacts will also be on the key risk corporate register.

How long have you used JCAD CORE?

It was here in an earlier form in 2004.

How does CORE help you in your role?

Information at our fingertips ready to be moulded into reports ASAP.

How does CORE help your organisation?

Single repository for detailed risk information across the council (and auditors).
