Felicity Tindall

How did you get into risk management and how long have you done it?

I inherited risk management into my portfolio of responsibilities pre covid.

What do you enjoy about it?

I like the logic of it. Integrating with our corporate objectives and horizon scanning to always be thinking ahead.

What challenges do you face in your business? What challenges are facing your sector?

As a local authority, we have been and continue to face budget challenges, which demand fresh thinking, utilising new technology and being more efficient across a wide breath of services.

Do you have any specific risk challenges within your organisation?

Ensuring risk management isn’t treated as a tick box exercise and is valued and brings benefits.  Getting Members as well as officers to understand risk appetite and embedding it as part of their operational routines.

How are you addressing those challenges?

Training, guiding, and advising all services through regular attendance at their management teams, as well as utilising JCAD to provide reports to Governance and Audit Committee.

How long have you used CORE?

Pre covid again but only recently upgraded and starting to take full advantage of all it can offer.

How does CORE help you in your role?

Enables me to have everything in one place with consistency. Cross linking so the ‘one truth’. Keeping on top of lots of risks and providing an organised logic to help me manage risks.

How does CORE help your organisation?

Like above. Enables the Council to have everything in one place with consistency. Cross linking. Keeping on top of lots of risks and providing assurance on the process and aiding assurance of risk management.

Would you be happy to occasionally talk to a potential user about your experiences of us and our products?

Yes.

Would you be happy to share a brief quote? Your thoughts on JCAD or the support services, or the product?

Having a JCAD helpline is a fantastic resource, so you never feel alone. Sandra in her role is invaluable to help you get the most out of JCAD and helping tailor to our needs.

Anything to add?

We have just had an Audit Wales audit of risk management with 5 other Welsh authorities and expect the findings to be reported in June which are likely to include recommendations.  Once finalised it will be published, so might also help with these questions from an external point of view.
